Decent Light, One Major Complaint

This is a nice compact flashlight for the money. Very bright, I love that it is rechargeable and the battery seems to last quite a long time - haven't had it die on me yet but I did notice the beam will lose some brightness when the battery begins to get low, but that is to be expected and not really an issue. The clip is a great feature and the flashlight seems well made. The material may be a bit cheap, I noticed it has chipped/indented a bit where my screwdriver will rub against it in my pocket. The on/off button is in a good location in that it's almost impossible to bump it and accidentally turn it on. My biggest complaint is the on/off feature though - you have to hold the button in to turn it off. If you quickly press the button it cycles to the next mode. In my opinion it would be a lot better to have it turn off with a quick press of the button and to cycle through the modes, you should have to hold the button in. I've noticed quite a few times even holding it in, it won't shut off and I have to cycle it through the modes to get it to the mode I want it to stay on and then try to shut it off again. It's kind of a pain to hold the button in to turn off when you're busy or in a hurry but that's really my only major complaint.

With great disappointment I write this review to inform you that the on/off button leaves much to be desired. To anyone who had Anker's previous line of flashlights and was hoping for an update will probably be disappointed with these lights purely due to the new button interface. The button is tiny because the USB port is next to it. The button clicks and has no half-press capability. There doesn't appear to be a way to program a default light mode to just click on and off. The quality of light is good and I'm sure the battery is good quality, I'm just afraid there was a design slip up or cost compromise that happened with the button/usb port component. The screw-off cap and replaceable battery options available on other Anker rechargeable flashlights are far superior. I hope and believe that Anker will come out with another line of flashlights that brings back the highly usable buttons of the original series. I would love to see more focusing rechargeable lights, hopefully with usb C, in different sizes and battery capacities.

Love it, hate it, what do you need it for?

This is a flashlight where you want to be sure what you need it for. Walking the dog around the block? Checking the crawl space? Emergency bag? Keep it in the car? Camping? Check the fuse box after a fuse blew... Kids?Absolutely. Night hike. Not so much.
I do enjoy the button. The charging flap is a bit more iffy. It's much like those on a glow dog collar. Seems to be durable. I am never quite sure it closed/sealed properly. It does... Just has a strange feel to it that way.
A bit small. Metal is solid. The clip/hook I could go without. I keep this in my jeans pocket and am not loving it. I use this for night walks and illumination of a glow dog toy so it's fine. For anything more serious I have an old LED Maglite and the difference is like day and night. Not saying Anker isn't a quality product. I am saying that if you need a good flashlight... The classics like Maglite are a safer bet. For the day to day, a rechargeable flashlight, this is perfect.

I almost sent it back because it's so very small to hold and only kept it because I know what I bought it for. It's a basic pocket size. I certainly don't love it and want to save myself $5 for the larger model, which is a good inch longer.

Do I recommend it? Mixed feelings. I do if you know what you want... And what you want is something for a pocket or toolbox/car/bag that meets basic needs. The battery is pretty powerful, actually. I would def compare specs. What you can see is that others have 1/4 of the charge. We are talking call phone vs. power pack here. Pretty impressive.
However, after a few uses now, I don't "love" it for what it offers. Probably will go back to a $37 pocket maglite because the quality is simply better... It just feels more like a $14.99 light to me.

Images are high vs low flashlight mode. You should be able to tell by the smaller tree which is which.

Frustrating controls ruin an otherwise adequate light

Major cons:
* Press once to turn on. LONG hold to turn off. I screwed it up every time, so back it goes.
* Strobe mode is in the high -> low cycle, when you never need it

Outside of those issues its a good light. It is mostly good for longer distances, with a very strong and tight center beam. Can't be sure on distance, but it went at least 200 meters for me. The light cone is even and dim outside the center beam, which is fine if you know what you are getting and want that. It does make it bad for around the house use, but possibly ok on trails or outdoors in general where distance is a priority.

Its too bad about the controls, though. On and Off should be the same action, and making "off" be a long press just means you have to always remember that (unlike every other light) to avoid cycling the light modes. It was frustrating, and I can't see ever getting used to it.

Strobe feature makes it a pain to use

This light could be so good: affordable, bright max level and useful low power levels, rechargeable, sturdy case.

But the designers have failed it in one important way, the mode cycle. After clicking through the power levels and using the light, the only way to turn it off is to continue to cycle through the modes, the last two of which are max power strobe modes (each at a different strobe rate). If I'm using the light, I am likely in a dark area. Suddenly being exposed to max power strobes is unpleasant for me and usually sets my dog off on a barking spell.

Simply allowing the light to be turned off without cycling through every mode would make this a 5 star light for the price. As it is, I have to remember to cover the lens and blindly click through the modes to save my eyes from the strobes when I power off.

Update after a couple weeks: Returning item.

Issue with insufficiently shrouded (or low push weight) button continues to cause me trouble. I’ve attempted carrying it in different pockets, off-body in a backpack, and even clipped to the placket of my shirt. I consistently find the light turned on when I didn’t intend. It gets hot. I have to charge it a couple times a week and I only actually use it for perhaps 3 minutes per day. The rest is like “pocket dials.”

Also, the clip isn’t very firm and it came out of my pocket when running causing superficial damage when it collided with concrete. I don’t care what my tools look like but other buyers may. I’d suggest having no clip on new models.

Initial review: Seems like a good light. Only had it a day. Easy controls. I’d prefer the button being more recessed as I accidentally activated it a couple times. I’d probably also prefer no clip, but maybe it will prove useful. For the price and the expectation of a good battery and charger (due to prior experience with other products from the brand) I’m initially satisfied.

Shipping was same day, as advertised. The outer cardboard box reeked of cigarettes, so out to the bin and no cat toy.

Received this light in May in prep for camping. Awesome light, bright and compact. Worked fantastic the first weekend camping. 2 weeks later went camping again, the light wouldn’t work. Figured I needed to charge it. Tossed it on a battery pack, red light came on signifying it was charging. Light turns blue, meaning fully charged, but nothing. Just dead. Maybe I received a dud. My gf bought the same light around the same time and hers works just fine.

So I gave this light 5 stars for brightness & 3 stars for battery life & water resistance as I really don’t know.

I love this product, exactly what I was looking for, but the fact that the usb portion of the flashlight failed after 2 years and was depressed into the flashlight body making it impossible to charge further, prevents me from giving this a 5 star review. Build quality initially seems high but considering I rarely used this and it spent most of its life in my laptop bag as an emergency flashlight, that was pretty disappointing.

I work nights, and got tired of replacing batteries in my torches every few days, so this fit the bill rather well. The first one is amazing, charges up relatively quick, holds a charge for a long time, been through a lot. Decided to order another... The second one I didn't test in a timely manner, and it doesn't really hold a charge. I've tried multiple chargers (including the cable it came with, and it doesn't really give a very bright led in the back when you plug it in. It dies very fast. Anker has always been good with their products warranties in the past, so I'm going to let this one slide, since I love the first one so much, and I'll likely order another and hope it holds up like the first one I ordered.

This flashlight has too many features for one button. The strobe and SOS modes should be integrated into a twist activation because I spent too much time in the dark trying to get to the "Middle Brightness" mode and blinding myself or others.

Likes:
*Good size, length and body diameter are perfect for car storage
*Non-twisting clip, fantastic for keeping the light positioned to not roll away
*USB rechargeable, probably the best part of the light so you can charge it almost anywhere

Dislikes:
*Single button for both on/off and mode making it clumsy to select and requiring you to "scroll" through the entire feature set
*Sharp crowned bezel, good for breaking glass and tearing jeans
*Clip is non-reversible forcing you to jam the big reflector into your pocket first
