I highly recommended this well written gritty, crime thriller. The book is full of twists and keeps the reader gripped and guessing right from the very first page to end just as it it with all other books by M. A Comley.
I get just as excited about a new release from Mel comley than I did about the first book I read from her (in 2013) and I literally pre-order everything written by her now, i'm a huge fan and totally hooked on her fabulous work and thankfully never have to wait long for my next fix in whatever series that may be.
This latest book is part of the Hero series, the lead character being the lovable 'D.I Hero Nelson' of the Manchester Murder Investigation Team, also featuring his colleagues and his lovely family.
... If only Hero was real and didn't have a wife ;-)
Can Hero juggle finding a break with a puzzling case and difficult personal circumstances which threaten to destroy his family as he's ever known it?
This book could be read on it's own, however personally I am glad I have had the pleasure of reading the earlier books of the series as I have loved, really getting to know the characters. That's what I love about the author's style, the reader gets to feel they really know the relatable characters (which can at times get a little emotional).
I first got to love and know of Mel's work through the Justice Series featuring D.I Lorne Simpkins, this is another MUST READ series, also my favourites include The D.I Sally Parker series and also the Deception series by M. A Comley and Linda Prather if you are yet to read any of these books then you really are missing out.
I just can't thank Mel enough for writing her amazing books and keeping me entertained for hours!!
Yet again, M.A. Comley has packed in so much within the pages, and although part of a series you could read as a stand alone, but benefit from reading all previous novels.
Loving the new look cover too....
The story starts with a gripping prologue that had me desperate for more. I wanted to know as much as the police why a successful business man could be brutally murdered and to who could perform such an evil act. I was certain I knew at the beginning who was behind it only to find out later on I had got it totally wrong.
Not only does Hero have a tough case to try and crack, we get more of an insight into his personal life which I loved. It just makes the characters more human as we get to see Hero’s life away from work and to what his family life is like. Luckily for Hero he has a loving family background but himself and his family are about to be knocked sideways.
This was another read that as soon as I picked it up I couldn’t put it down until the very end. There is plenty going on to have the reader racing through the pages to what I can only say was quite an emotional ending. An enthralling read that had me devour it in one sitting and left me desperate for more.
Enter stage left, our Hero (everyone needs a Hero) who’s got to crack this shocking case. But as he starts his investigation, things take an unexpected turn and not in a helpful way!!
I do enjoy reading Ms Comley’s books, they’re packed with red herrings and intrigue. They definitely keep me guessing right to the end and on this occasion the end left me stunned! #nospoiler!! I don’t know how the author is going to follow on from that!
The writing is fast-paced and I was totally absorbed into the Manchester based investigation and beyond! I’d definitely want Hero and his team patrolling the streets of West Yorkshire!
