'FACTS' Should Be Checked

Storyline is pretty much as expected, well told. But...do people really put exclamation marks at the end of their thoughts? I thought not! For me, who lived not too far from Oxford throughout the 1960's, it's kinda fun to spot the anachronisms....The UK did not have a two tier postal service until 1968, so reference to second class postage in the early sixties jars. It's a checkable fact. The Players No 6 cigarette brand wasn't launched until 1965. Another checkable fact. I'm currently researching when domestic freezers became available in the UK...from memory, most households didn't even have a fridge (yes I know I should get out more, but I plead Covid-19 precautions). But, I can offer a get out - we had Americans from the base at Greenham Common living in our road in Newbury. They had a freezer - with generous supplies of ice-cream, which their children were happy to share - so maybe, someone in Oxford may have got hold of one that fell off the back of the USAF base in Upper Heyford. You can thank me later.

I gIve myself credit for very often being able to identify the perpetrator of a murder long before their identity is finally revealed at the end of book, that is why I am such an avid fan of Faith Martin, because she never ceases to amaze me with her cleverly constructed plots and unexpected last minute revelations that can send your mind spinning off at a tangent which always proves to be the complete opposite of your original conclusions, and this series is no exception.
Once again my 'detective ' skills have been thwarted at every turn, but I so enjoy a challenge, and that is exactly what I get from Faith , my favourite crime writer.
Cannot wait for her next exciting mystery novel to be released.

This book #5 in the enjoyable Ryder and Loveday series by Faith Martin.

There are a couple of factual errors but nothing to detract from an excellent read.

In the early 1960's, a business tycoon is burnt to death in his garden shed during a family firework display. Was it an accident or was it murder? There's little evidence to go on.....

I liked the story, although I felt one or two loose ends were left dangling, however I like the Ryder-Loveday cooperation. Sometimes I thought certain phrases are repeated too often and I wished that grammar and spellcheck would be used by the editors. English is not my first language, but even I can pick out plenty of mistakes.
Then again for 2Euro it is probably the equivalent of the penny dread-full of old times, produced in haste.

First class writing and an exciting trip down Memory Lane

I have read all five in quick succession. The writing, plotting and style are all excellent. They are real ‘page turners’: they kept me away from mundane tasks. I am looking forward to the next one coming out in paperback. They are set in Oxford in the early 1960s. I was a student in Oxford from 1964 to 1967. I can testify to the fact that her research has been effective: she has captured the Oxford I knew with remarkable accuracy.
