Bought this for my niece to use with her iPhone and iPad. According to description it supports HomeKit, and the short manual included referred to the leaflet to find the QR-code for HomeKit. No such code, so I contacted Ledvance. They told me that if it supports HomeKit, the 8 digit code (instead of QR) should be printed on the base of the bulb itself. It's not.

When the Ledvance Smart+ Bluetooth app is first started, you're given 4 choices of control:
1. Google Assistant
2. Amazon Alexa
3. Apple HomeKit
4. Ledvance Smart+ Bluetooth app
So, I thought this is how I'd finally get it working with at least Siri via the Home app, as some other have described. After selecting Apple HomeKit and locating the lamp, it responded with an error saying the bulb wasn't compatible. Just for fun, I tried selecting Google Assistant after this, and that worked just fine.

The app itself is not very good either. For some reason it requires registration. And, for instance, even though this is not an RGB/color bulb, the control to change color is the default after selecting the bulb, not the tunable white control. Even if the functionality remained the same, the experience would be greatly improved if the app received a major overhaul to follow the basic design guidelines for iOS/Android.

When I ordered it I was under the impression that this was a color bulb due to the title ("color temperature changeable"), but I realize I should have paid closer attention to the wording. Something like "tunable white" would be more appropriate for the title though.

This LEDVANCE Smart+ Tuneable White E14 LED Bulb is slightly longer than some standard golf-ball style bulbs so could be a tight fit in some fixtures but it does have more translucent light-emitting area than some - some LED bulbs are half-opaque with the light only emitting from the top but this one isn't too bad. It's a smart bulb so to get full access to the features you need to pair it to one of the smart home services and that's the first limitation with this bulb because it only uses Bluetooth to connect (no wi-fi option) and so therefore you can only pair it with one service at a time. Wi-fi connected smart-bulbs can be connected to multiple services at once and controlled by whichever device you have handy. A Bluetooth bulb needs a control device (whether that's your smartphone or a smart speaker) to be within a short range, probably within the same room, whereas a wi-fi bulb can be controlled from anywhere within the wi-fi range. Long story short, be sure a Bluetooth-only bulb is what you want before buying.

There's a dedicated LEDVANCE Smart+ Bluetooth app (different to their wi-fi app) which you can use to control the brightness, shade of white and to switch on/off and also to update the bulb's firmware. I've had major issues with LEDVANCE Bluetooth bulbs and the iOS version of the app and couldn't always get them to pair. I switched to the Android app and it worked first time which then let me update the bulb's firmware and thereafter it worked with Apple devices - so if you're an Apple-only household be prepared to borrow an Android phone/tablet to get your LEDVANCE bulb working at first.

The app also lets you choose which of the smart services you want to use with the bulb (this procedure might also trigger a firmware update) and that lets you control it using Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Homekit or Google Home. I found it paired with an Echo smart speaker really easily and was immediately controllable by Alexa commands and available to be used in Alexa routines. With the bulb paired to an Alexa device (or similar) you can now control it when you're out of the house assuming that your Echo smart speaker stays within range of the bulb. Note the LEDVANCE app doesn't allow that kind of automated use and so you really need to be using a smart home service to get the best from the bulb.

I've got mixed feeling about the bulb in the end, it gives a nice soft light with a useful range of white shades but it's limited by being Bluetooth-only and it really should work with non-Android devices out-of-the-box. It's a quality item but it's very pricey and you could buy a wi-fi equipped version (or 4) for a similar price or less that would be more flexible and more likely to connect and stay connected.

Setting Up on Apple Home and Alexa is Less Straightforward

So ive spent the better part of an hour setting up my apple Home controlled bulbs today. The instructions are minimal, just a series of pictorial charts making the short double sided A5 more inclusive internationally as written instructions are all but scarce.

In reality the setup is not a piece of cake. They are identical to a larger set from Ledvance which i've just finished installing so the steps remain the same.
I wanted to set it up over Apple HomeKit so that I can control the light remotely using a hub, which can also be done with one of the iPads set up as a hub in the absence of a dedicated Apple Hub.

These are the steps I undertook:

•The first step is, if not already setup, find the 'Home' app on the iPad/iPhone and enable it by allowing it to use iCloud.
•Download the 'Ledvance Smart+ Bluetooth' app for the App Store as these are bluetooth enabled bulbs and not the Wifi set, which has a secondary app on the App Store.
• With the Ledvance app ready on your device, proceed with fitting the bulb and switch each one 'on' and then back 'off' a total of 5 times to factory reset the bulb. On the fifth 'on' you will notice a slight delay before the illumination which signifies they're ready.
• Then follow the instructions on the Ledvance app, it'll download an update and install some firmware if it needs it and signify that it has recognised the bulbs which will appear in the dropdown.
• I then follow the same Ledvance app's instruction to either control the bulb through the app (for which need to signup to with email address and password, which found unnecessary) or transfer through to Alexa or Apple Home and click on my choice.
• Your selected choice, in my instance Apple Home, then opens up and the bulb appears in the app. It can then be set as a theme.
• A long press of your chosen bulb in the Home app will open the colour wheel. Its very rudimentary and simplified. I can't set a timer like my Philips Hue bulbs, or even set a schedule for them which is disappointing.
If im doing something wrong and someone finds a workaround for this, then I would love to hear about it.
• If you have a Apple hub, you can then connect it via the Home app so that you can control the bulbs from anywhere in the world. And if you don't have a hub, but a spare phone or iPad, this too can be used as a hub too.

I have a number of ledvance bulbs, to set them all up in this manner is time-consuming and unnecessarily complicated. My Phillips Hue bulbs took a couple of minutes to connect to the app for perspective.

Once set up, the bulb worked faultlessly, the shade adjustment has a slight delay if controlled via the third party Home app as oppose to the Ledvance app. the Laedvance app also allows more control in terms of settings with the bulb. But you do need to sign up to an account in order to do this.

The bulb quality is very good. Very well made and should last a while. But the software issues and the high price is a issue which I hope Ledvance can reconsider in time.

I like the bulb the shades, the hues it can provide and the build, so 4 stars fro them, but the app is just not user-friendly enough I would give the software 2 stars.
3 stars overall.

LEDVANCE is a brand I never come across before but after some research, osram and ledvance were under the same mother company. His give me a bit of confidence on it as I have been using osram for many years. The setup is easy with instructions provided. You can use it’s ledvance app which is free download or pair it with Alexa or google home. I have both Alexa and google at home and very familiar with the pairing. The setup only takes me within 10 min. The bulb can be dimmed, change colour or set time schedule via the app. The only thing I don’t like is the price. It was £26.99 for just one bulb at the time of review. Think about if you need multiple of them in a room, the implementation will be quite pricy. This is where I take off one star from it.

The light has worked as expected and as it says in the product description it is used through an app with Bluetooth so I had no problems with that.

It has very good lighting, it can be regulated and I was able to connect it with Alexa without problems through the LEDVANCE Smart + Bluetooth application that I could download in the application store without problems so in terms of use it has gone well so far.

It seems a bit expensive for a light that is accompanied by others on the market, but so far everything has gone well. I'm not sure if I would buy again for the price.
