The dist collectiion is simplicity itself witha bayonett twist and empty system -just empty, clean and go!

The filter is a bit flimsy so I took a star off for that and it won't hold much stuff.
Beware that if you bang (gently) the filter to clean the dust off it, it may fall off along with the flimsy holder, but I'm sure once I get used to being gently with it - all will be good.
It picks up dust+bits well, especially with the wedge nozzle - does extra well with that.
There is no way this should be used with wet stuff just in case someone asks!
UPDATE after 4 months
Everytime I switch it on, a puff of dust comes out of the sides.
Now, useable only for onsite where it might not be a particularly dust free area.
I took it apart completely and de-dusted the insides. Bit of a flimsy design for the filter, but for the price of the unit it is almost disposable!
Have downgraded from 4 stars to 3 as need to de-dust the insides again.
It also needs emptying very very regularly which can be quite messy (hence the dust getting into the machine)!

Very quiet compared to almost every other vacuum cleaner I've used, except my huge expensive mains-powered Bosch ProSilence, which I'll now be selling since I like this one so much, and I anyways want to move into a tiny house on wheels where there's no space for a huge vacuum cleaner.
Sucks well. It's fairly weak compared to a mains device, so don't expect it to remove all the pet hairs that are stuck really well onto a fabric, or pull dirt out from the inside of a rug, but for hard floors or removing dirt from the top of the rug, this works great. Able to pick up huge amounts of dirt very quickly, until it's full of course.
Has a small compartment, but it's so easy to empty that it doesn't bother me.
SO much more convenient than a huge vacuum that I have to drag behind me! This little thing is so dang easy to use!
Has a trigger rather than an on-off button like most others, which I love. So easy, and helps you extend the battery life.
Unfortunately no speed control, but it's not a big issue.
I was surprised that this worked with my 14.4v Makita battery, but of course I cannot tell you if that's safe or recommended. In my experience it worked great, a little less suction and also a little less noise.
Love this thing. Perfect for my needs.
I've cleaned my whole house and of course the battery is still fine. Knowing these batteries from power tools, I'd expect you can get a LOT of cleaning done on one 3AH battery. Of course this doesn't include a battery or charger. I'd recommend spending the £38 or so for a genuine Makita battery, rather than £30ish for a third party one. My third party one failed after 3 months with my Makita stapler, big waste of money. I have friends who still have 10 year old genuine Makita batteries working great, so I'm now using genuine batteries.
As for the charger, I don't know. I read that the original Makita charger can have problems, although it mostly has good reviews so it's probably a fairly decent device most of the time.

-Lightweight
-High quality materials/construction
-single trigger operation
-robust body
-simple and easy to use straight from the box
-good value for money
-easy to empty dust compartment
-filters and pre-filter easy to change (spares not included)
Cons:
-pre filter is made from quite weak plastic so could easily break when changing the filter (I’ve not broken mine though)
Overall a high quality, great value, basic vacuum cleaner. Wouldn’t expect anything less from a Makita product. This is an ideal cleaner for a workshop as it sucks up almost any type of small debris! Excellent!
