I've been using different Max Factor mascaras for a while so was really excited to try this product due to the good reviews and cheap price but was actually quite disappointed. Instead of lengthening my lashes / adding any volume it clumped them together and I found they looked a lot shorter. Also found the mascara very hard to remove and no matter how hard I tried to remove the mascara the night before, I'd always end up with some smudged round my eyes in the morning.

Haven't had either of these problems with Max Factor mascara before - I'd avoid buying this and stick to some of the slightly higher priced mascaras which in my opinion work a lot more effectively

Great mascara for thicker longer lashes

I am a mascara fanatic. I want a mascara that will give me crazy long and thick lashes, won't clump, won't streak or flake, and won't look spidery. I want one that also comes off easily when I want to remove it and doesn't irritate my eyes. I'm not asking for much, am I? I have found a number of mascaras that I liked but that didn't fit all my criteria. After hearing about and reading reviews of Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, I had to try it.

I bought it and was very eager to try it. The tube is thick but the brush is a dense comb. It isn't a huge brush but it is fairly substantial with short comb-like bristles. The formula is not watery or messy. I didn't apply primer the first time I tried it because I wanted to see how the mascara performed alone.

The first coat was decent, nothing special. Three coats in, I did have longer looking eyelashes. They were darker and a bit thicker. I didn't get a lot of volume with the mascara which is often the case with me. I have straight, medium length lashes that are thin and need to be plumped up. This mascara did give me enough volume so that my lashes didn't look like spidery sticks. However, I did not look like I had false lashes on nor did I find the mascara to be that much better than a couple of cheaper mascaras

This mascara doesn't flake throughout the day and it holds up well. If it gave me a bit more volume, I would really like this. It is clump free even with numerous coats which is a real plus.

The mascara washes off with my facial cleanser or eye makeup remover and doesn't irritate my eyes at all. I do think it is a BIT pricey for the results but I have enjoyed the overall effect and immediate longer lash look.

In all, I am going with 4 stars. I wasn't blown away but it takes a LOT to blow me away and only a couple of mascaras ever have (but clearly not enough for me to stop looking for even better results). For the price point, this mascara delivers well although I think it's a tad pricey compared to other drugstore mascaras that work well like Covergirl's LashExact which is around $7.00 and gives comparative results. I would go with 3.5 stars but can't so I went to 4. If you are looking for a mascara that lengthens, darkens, and adds some volume and that isn't clumpy, this is a good choice. It may be a GREAT choice for those who don't demand so much from a mascara like I do.

Not really a fan of this mascara but that’s just my personal opinion. I find it goes on ok but then makes my eyelashes look very flakey and like ‘spiders legs’. It doesn't really give you any length or thickness, just kind of sits there. If doesn’t flake off onto my skin under my eyes which is a plus but I just don’t like the way it looks on my lashes. Quite difficult to take off, found I was having to scrub my eyes which was making everything sore. Might be amazing for someone else but just not for me!

I have tried countless drugstore mascaras and more expensive brands like Dior and Benefit, but nothing beats the Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara. I keep coming back to it time after time. Does not irritate my eyes, relatively easy to wash off at the end of the day, does not smudge, and does a fantastic job of separating and lengthening my lashes (mascara that makes my eye lashes look like spider legs are a big no-no!)

Update: shame they keep changing the price, £5-7 is great but I won’t be buying it at £11 which is now what they have put it up to! Shame as I would have continued to buy it regularly.
This is a lovely mascara I wear make-up every single day and have tried many brands over the years, I’ll definitely buy this one again at £6 it is a good price the brush was easy to apply, it stayed on really well all day, it gave my lashes a lovely length and was easy enough to remove at the end of the day with make up remover. Would highly recommend

I bought this product because it is being sold under the brand 'Max Factor', a brand I've used for years. The tube is advertised as not having a security seal, so that should have set my alarm bells ringing. When the tube arrived, I was surprised by the foul odour, and the dryness of the contents. Ignoring the second alarm bell ringing, I applied a coat, which was hardly notable. Within an hour, my eyes became hot and itchy, so I removed everything from my lids and lashes. The following morning, I could hardly open my eyes, that stung like fury! A visit to my GP confirmed both eyes had been infected!!! It took two days of eye baths and drops every four hours, before the swelling had gone down enough before I could open my eyes!! Thankfully, the infection has cleared. However, my GP has been very concerned that I might have been left with scarring on my retina, and has referred me on. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE!!!

Don't buy it, it is a horrible mascara, very liquidy, which makes it difficult to apply and it leaves black marks on the lid. Brush is plasticky type, short rubber bristles, just not great.
I managed (and had a patience!) to apply two layers and I'm telling you the effect was far off from Falshe Lash Effect.
Easy to remove and mascara is waterproof as per description.
Better invest another £10 and get proper one.

OK product but annoying plastic packaging

This certainly doesn't clump and goes on evenly but I wouldn't buy it again unless they do something about the packaging. There was an outer layer of packaging (plastic) which I suppose reassures people that it's unopened but really - in this day and age surely manufacturers can come up with something more planet-friendly? And then there's another plastic layer, which is meant to be left on, which is palm-tree patterned plastic - I suppose meant for attractiveness. It would be fine if it were paper or card or something harmless but.....another layer of plastic? Manufacturers - get with it, consider the planet, be a bit 21st century!

Positives - The mascara goes on nicely, lengthens my lashes and gives volume. It lasts all day and doesn’t run or smudge.
Negatives - The mascara packaging looks and feels cheap. Not what I’d expect from Max Factor. The plastic is matt black and doesn’t feel like it’s a well made, luxury item. The brand sticker looks cheap and looks like it’s not authentic
Summary - I’m not convinced this is truly Max Factor because it looks and feels so cheap but if this item is a copy, it works really well. For less than a fiver it’s worth the money

Warning not genuine allergic reaction. Please do not chance this product I have used this mascara for years brought from boots but brought both black and brown from this seller trusting it was genuine applied and within minutes my eyelids are swollen I have compared packaging and the manufacturer address is different cant contact seller direct about this so will take action through amazon photo shows genuine mascara on the left
