I started collecting these on the basis that I’ll only be getting the Mighty Morphin figures only and skipping the shows I don’t have a personal attachment to, as between Hasbro’s current Overwatch and Transformers lines, I’m a bit strapped for cash.
So far I’ve got this one and Lord Zedd and between them this is the most impressed I’ve been with a Hasbro figure in a very long time. Out of the box the majority of the paint was well applied with only an annoying spot of black paint on the Tommy head sculpt’s nose. The visor on the Ranger head sculpt also has a tiny chip but it’s unnoticeable at a distance.
The articulation system is the best Hasbro has put out to date, better than the Overwatch figures which are a similar set up but more uniform across the line (probably due to the fact that the character designs in Power Rangers are a lot less complicated than Overwatch). It has all the things you’d expect from a Hasbro figure but includes very functional butterfly joints and the Overwatch style double ball peg diaphragm joint/reverse ab crunch; the difference is that it actually functions here where the Overwatch figures have been springy and difficult to pose in my experience. The chest shield is soft plastic and moves well so doesn’t hinder the articulation at all.
The accessories are minimal but I don’t know what else you’d need; you get a very nice Tommy head sculpt that uses the photo scan technology that Hasbro has been using on its MCU marvel legends and the effect is very good. You get Saba, which is very nicely sculpted and painted and finally you get an energy effect to add to the sword along with two gripping hands, two fisted hands and an open palm, karate chop-style hand.
I like the two figures I’ve picked up so far a lot, this one particularly I have nothing bad to say about, and look forward to seeing Hasbro refine their designs. With the exclusive Green Ranger/Putty pack and the Red and Pink Rangers in the way, I’m definitely invested in this line.
