Good if you like reading sagas

Whilst I enjoyed learning bits about the background of the San Francisco Chinese community I'm not a lover of long sagas. This is a group of 3 books, but it is really 3 murders and one ongoing background story that I presume carries on through books 4-6.
Whilst I carried on reading, it is after all a story, I like 'cosy mysteries' to be short, fun and complete (this is nearly 600 pages).
I enjoy books that carry on with the same characters, but not with a strong background story that takes the lead.
I'm sure lots of you will really enjoy this series, just not for me at the moment

and I've just bought the first book in the Lucy Fong series, and pre-ordered the new books in both series. Yep, I'm a new fan.
As a cozy mystery series, the Raina Sun books satisfied it's genre, nothing too graphic, but levels of light, shade and dark. Particularly I like the fact that she describes people, rather than immediately labelling them. I also love learning so much of the Chinese family history, it's impact through the years, and the wealth of detail about Chinese cultural mores.
This is not dissimilar to Alexander Mccall Smith and his Mma Ramotswe/No 1 Detective Agency, for introducing the reader to a different culture. If anyone can tell me about others who feature their culture in their books, I'd love to hear (like Po Po, I'm no longer young, and life's too short to read boring books).

I read all three books. Sometimes the sentences were too long, or too many things mentioned in one sentence with no flow, which made things confusing at times.
There was also an underlying current of judgement and partial racism whereby the books suggests that someone with 'afro' hair isn't attractive. Afro is very different to curly hair. Neither of Which are negative.
I enjoyed the Chinese cultural references. That was quite insightful. And PoPo was a great character

Following the adventures of Raina Sun and her livewire grandmother was both entertaining and a fascinating insight into American Chinese culture. Well worth reading if you want a mystery adventure with a little something different. I'll look out for this author again in future.

Some of the scenarios were just plain silly and I skipped over them in irritation but otherwise a good read
