Here is my review of Regrets Mean Nothing by M A Comley. It’s book six in the DI Hero Nelson series which is set near Manchester.

A group of four friends go out for an evening at the pub local to Angela. They have a good night spent catching up and chatting between them. Three of them drive home but Angela takes the shortcut through the woods. She doesn’t make it home, her attacker is waiting in the darkness and strikes before the end of the path!

She had begged for her life to no avail but her attacker had been slighted once too often, he was determined to see this through to the end.

The next day, DI Hero Nelson and DS Julie Shaw get the call to attend the crime scene and investigate the murder of Angela Jameson. Her bag is found not far from her body, completely untouched. They go to the home address but there is no answer so start with the neighbours to see if they can help. Then they see Angela’s mother turn up at the house with a child. They have the dreadful task of breaking the news to her about her daughter.

They start the investigation by checking Angela’s background, her workplace, her friends, to see if they know of any enemies or anyone that might want her dead. Absolutely zilch.

That evening, while Nelson spent a rare evening with his family and learnt of a secret his sister wished him to keep. At least until she felt the time was right to share it.

The killer was out. Stalking his next target who was driving his minicab. He knew his routine but he was hoping tonight would be the night, he had waited long enough to get his revenge. He was looking forward to this.

He followed safely in his car, just waiting for the right moment when he could strike. The tools that he needed in a bag, on the seat beside him. Then he struck lucky. While the man flirted with two female passengers getting out of the cab.He managed to sidle up and wait by the man’s cab, then he hopped in and gave his destination. A house he had scouted out and was perfect for his plans. The man was now his….

Oh boy, this was another fantastic read from the super M A Comley! A great addition to a brilliant series. Still new to this series but I’m getting hooked! DI Hero Nelson and DS Julie Shaw are easy to like.

Not far from the scene they find a pub ..and when CCTV shows them Angela having a great night with her besties..Hero and Shaw are determined to find this brutal killer...As the case progresses there is another brutal murder , but once again there nothing in the victims past that stands out .Hero has a dilemma ,he has been passed a confidence ,that though he would never break it ..he is torn emotionally. As the killer escalates..the team are getting closer..Some memories will stay hidden, yet they can come back clawing and biting waiting to be unleashed..When the sins of the past do come screaming back ..Hero will be the one who goes to the place where Revenge..Cruelty and Retribution lie ..Part of me felt sadness in this story , that people do the things they do can have a lasting effect that can stay forever..Mel Comley has the ability to make the reader see things in many colours ...sometimes things are not just black or white ...All the stars and more ..for this story .

Why did Angela have to take a short cut through the woods after her night out with her best friends? they pleaded with her to let one of them give her a lift but she wouldn't hear of it. She said she wanted to go through her thoughts for an important meeting the following day. A meeting that she would never get to attend and this was only the start. This is fast becoming my favourite series and it just gets better and better, Highly recommend.

I have the whole set and just love the character of Hero. He's not perfect and that's what makes the story so good. He's fallible like the rest of us but tries hard. Well worth the money and with lock down, I've been reading a book a day so whipped through the series. Definitely worth buying.

Hero is the right name for the lead character in these books.
This case is horrific and it will make readers feel. The book though is excellent and it’s dealt with as MA Comley always does, carefully and thoughtfully

I love this author. Wham she did it again. This is the sixth gripping case with Detective Hero Nelson, a man who has to deal with frightening problems in his own life as well as investigate the murder of a woman who seemed to have everything. Angela Jameson had a terrific job, a child on the way, and a perfect marriage – why would someone kill her? The case becomes more complex as more murders occur. Could they be related?

This is more than a police procedural. The characters are very real in their pain, fear and loss. Families are devastated. You will feel what they feel as Detective Hero works the crime scenes, feeling simultaneously frantic about the fate of his sister. Hero and his partner Julie Shaw care about people – that is the emotional pull of this thriller. It’s a terrific, gripping read that I could not stop reading. Although sixth in this outstanding series, it reads easily as a standalone. Highly recommended, five stars!

A serial murderer has turned the area of Manchester into a wave of concern as to "who's next?" DI Hero Nelson has three separate murders on his hand before he begins to realize there is a connection, which he masterly begins to find the necessary associations. A tale from England where you realize how the lack of guns for law enforcement creates additional danger for those who take up the calling. Along with the unfamiliar slang that enhances the dialogue, I found this a most entertaining read.
