Does a great job. Like many reviews I concur that for a VW Golf Mk 6 (possibly other cars) you will need 1 meter of 5mm tubing to fit through the dipstick channel. I used a nebulizer hose, so would imagine any type of 5mm hose will do. The omission of this hose when you buy it is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. I managed to remove 4.1 Litres of oil (4.3lt is the top mark for my car) this took around 30 mins with the last 10 mins or so requiring more pumping and manipulating the hose around the bottom of the sump. I got bored removing such small quantities at a time, so it could be possible to remove all your oil if you are the patient type? I momentarily considered this approach before remembering that life is too short :)
Would highly recommend this product to anyone not wanting to raise the car up, remove the ridiculous abs engine under tray (cover) and mess around with sump plugs/washers.
Word of caution! The bottle holds 4lt but in real terms this will be around 3.5lt as you will stop drawing oil so as not to compromise the base of the valve/pump. Then you would decant into a suitable tray before starting the process again to remove the remainder of the engine oil. It will be best to leave the hose in place within the dipstick channel and detach the hose at the bottle itself. As I found it difficult finding the bottom of the sump again after removing the tubing. The heat from the hot oil had softened the tubing somewhat making it coil more within the engine, I still managed it, but next time I will leave the inserted hose in place, doing the connects and disconnects at the bottle itself. Just a heads up, hope it all makes sense? I could probably have removed all 4.3lt of oil had I did this, I suppose I will find out next year.

This is possibly the worst purchase I have ever made. If you create too great a vacuum it collapses. The top is a bung that squashes into the bottle/tank. The problem is that once oily it tends to separate from the base. Extracting oil can be a messy business. This is supposed to reduce the mess! The hose is very springy and is also only pushed into the bung. The unit fell on its side (boats aren't stable at the best of times) , separated and oil went everywhere. I have spent nearly two hours cleaning the spilt oil from my boat. I will bin this and buy a more expensive unit with proper seals, a decent pump and a container that doesn't collapse. It really was a waste of money.

I have a few Silverline tools in my garage and generally they are ok for the money. After a bit of research I decided to take a punt on one of the Silverline pumps which I bought for servicing my own cars. The first problem was the tube supplied was too big to fit down the dipstick tube into the sump. This was a bit annoying but I soon found another bit of tube that I could convert it with, however, even after this faffing about it took forever to pull the oil out the sump. You have to pump it constantly and the vacuum created doesn't seem very good. Eventually I got all the oil out and finished the job properly. I've recently tried to use it a second time and it was even worse, After about 1 hour I only managed to get about 4 litres of oil out my car which holds 5.5-6 litres. I couldn't jack the car up and drain it via the sump as my trolley jack is broken, I couldn't go anywhere in the car to borrow a jack as it had no oil in it!! This resulted in me having to partly re-fill my car with new oil on top of the old. Not ideal... and a waste of time, new oil and money! I'll be buying a better pump or a new trolley jack and servicing it again in the next couple of months!

I have a different version of this type of device (Sealey TP696 - £45 on Prime) and it is fabulous - can do an oil change in about 10 minutes with no mess/crawling around/undershield removal. This Silverline product is absolutely horrendous and completely unusable for an oil change - even the narrowest supplied tube will not fit into the dipstick tube of a Audi 2.0L Diesel, or VW 1.9 Diesel or Peugeot 1.1 Petrol or Toyota 1.0L. In addition the tubes are made of some quite rigid type of plastic and are supplied curled up. They don't want to be straightened and I managed to kink one just straightening it, It might work fine to suck up from an open pan of oil, but if it wasn't for the fact that I got it absolutely filthy trying to get it to work I would return it. It may work if I modify it with some different tubing I have but that's not the point - it ought to be fit for purpose not need modification

Brilliant product, got me out of trouble when my awful dipstick looked dry and I topped up with too much oil (R56 mini, notoriously bad dipstick). Simple to use although I would advise buying 4mm fish tank hose for £5.99 as the supplied one is too big for most dipstick tubes. Some people have moaned that it takes a lot of effort, it doesn't, once the oil comes through and you have pressure it siphons out, all you need is the occasional couple of pumps (2-3) to keep the pressure up. I sat and watched it flow for 2-3 minutes before having to pump again. It's a great product, very cheap and well worth the money (even buying the 4mm line).
