First the good. The softener was fairly easy to install (I was replacing an old one so most of the pipework was there already. It also seems to work well with soft water almost straight away. A few words of caution about the size. Although they say it is 455mm deep, it is in fact 570mm once you fit the pipe connectors (even with right angle ones). This is pushing the limits of most kitchen units. The colourful lid may look nice but it has to come off over the top so the 650mm height needs to be nearer 800mm again not possible with most kitchen units (I left mine off like others have done). BUT although the customer service is good it is on a PREMIUM rate number. I found this very irritating as my call was about a missing test kit (not my fault). I also had an enquiry about setting the regeneration capacity - the manual does not make clear what this does and how to set it if you don't fit one of their model examples. Again an invitation to call them back on the PREMIUM rate number. If you are interested the Regen Capacity relates to the number of litres of water before you regenerate and their table makes allowance for the fact that if you are a large family you might need to regenerate early in case you all want showers late at night.

I bought this a year ago, it has worked perfectly and uses very little salt. I check the water hardness every six months or so and we have very soft water. No limescale build-up either. I'd recommend to get 22mm connectors, which are available from the manufacturer and make sure the stop valves on the pipes are large bore too, as some 22mm stop valves can have a small internal diameter. Also make sure you check the hardness of your local water supply so you calibrate the softener properly.

En remplacement d’un adoucisseur de grande marque (électronique HS après 12 ans), cet adoucisseur est très simple à installer avec un peu de connaissance en bricolage.
En entrée nous avons une dureté de 28 degrés, et en sortie après l’adoucisseur 0 dégré. J’ai donc ouvert la vanne mélangeuse pour obtenir 7-8 degrés de dureté (mesures de dureté réalisées avec Hardness TITRANT, ne pas utiliser de testeur TDS/ppm qui mesure la pureté de l’eau mais pas sa dureté). Si vous laissez la vanne mélangeuse fermée (tournée à fond dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d’une montre), seule de l’eau adoucie à 0 degré sort. La fonction de la vanne mélangeuse est de mélanger un peu d’eau non-adoucie pour augmenter légèrement la dureté au degré attendu (nous obtenons 7-8 degrés vanne mélangeuse pratiquement ouverte à fond).
Autre précision, l’indication du volume à traiter correspond au volume d’eau en mètres cubes qui est traité (volume d’eau qui traverse la cuve de résine pour être déchargé du calcaire) entre deux régénérations. Donc au fur et à mesure que vous utilisez de l’eau, ce paramètre diminue chaque jour jusqu’à atteindre 0, et la nuit suivante (à 3h00 du matin selon la programmation préconisée par Water2buy) la régénération a lieu, et le matin l’indicateur affiche à nouveau le nombre initialement paramétré (par exemple 1.10 T) et repart pour un nouveau cycle.
Attention il y a une petite erreur dans la vidéo de montage, car il est dit d’ouvrir le bypass (manettes rouges à l'arrière) dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre, en fait ceci est vrai pour la vanne d’entrée, mais pour la vanne de sortie il faut tourner dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d’une montre (de toute façon cela ne tourne pas dans l’autre sens).

The App is poor marketing

As a basic water softener this is fine but I have a few gripes to call out which are worth noting.

Top Cover is a poor design - it needs to be placed over the top of the control module as opposed to sliding it in from the front. This is a problem as the product is quite tall and there is not sufficient space to apply the cover any other way than the front. It would need to be cut with a hacksaw if it is to be fitted in most cabinets.

The marketing for this water softener implies some intelligence with there being an app. This is extremely misleading. There is absolutely no connectivity of the water softener to any app, phone or cloud service. The “app” is just a QR code to take you to a website. The website is misleading by showing a selection of products, you click on your one and the icon changes from disconnected to connected. To be clear, there is no connection to the water softener. It was unpowered and in its box when I initially tried this. You have to accept the terms and conditions to use the app but there are no terms and conditions that you can read, the link doesn’t work.

The “app” purely takes you to an installation video, and a calculator for working out your settings that you manually programme back into the control unit of the product.

The instructions were fine for the installation of the pipes and drainage etc, but they were lacking in anything related to the water hardness test and calculator and they didn’t even mention what the control knob did or suggest using it to test the system before it activates at 3am.

There is no intelligence in the salt reminders. Once you activate it from the “app” you get an email. The email contains a link that didn’t work initally. The page just said “Invalid Application”. My assumption is that if this worked it would simply send an email from the manufactures; there is absolutely no connection to your machine. Very disappointed to see how this has been marketed and the reality of what is being sold. It’s nothing more than a basic metered water softener. Please don’t be fooled into thinking is anything else.

As a basic water softener it’s adequate. I got it when it was on sale on Amazon for £320 which is around middle of the range I guess. It does make a positive difference to the water and the shower screen, just disappointing marketing.

Update 30/03/21: We have very hard water in the Chilterns. For a few months I was disappointed by how quickly the water would go hard again after a regen (less than 200ltrs) and it was regenning every night. I was using granular salt and noticed that the tank wasn't refilling for very long (~30 seconds). The newer model has a float valve in the tank (inside a long grey tube). I was using granulated salt and this is so fine that the water when refilling is not able to dissipate out of the grey tube quickly and is instead filling it up, closing the float valve. The solution is to use salt tablets or blocks.

So the newest model which arrived at my house late November 2020 doesn't have an overflow on the side - so I queried and got the answer that they’ve updated the design so that there is now a float valve in the tank which means it can no longer be overfilled. Great, makes the install job easier.

Our supply pipe enters, there's a stop cock then a spur off to my utility room sink and outside tap, I cut the other side of the spur which is in 15mm copper pipe and fitted an elbow appliance tap on each side of the cut. To these I connected new 1.2m braided steel hoses with 3/4 connectors and right-angled at one end (£9/ea) which run to and from the water softner. I originally used washing machine hoses but got worried about one failing and leaking. For the waste outlet I used garden hose into the washing machine standpipe.

The washing machine needs less than half the detergent it used before, otherwise you end up with very soapy clothes at the end! We use hard water for cold drinks for flavour reasons but soft water in the kettle/coffee machine for the sake of avoiding limescale.

The Water2Buy sales e-mail address have been very helpful so far, I had a couple of questions re warranty and also the regen settings which I wanted to tinker with so if regened less often. They replied to both within a few hours with knowledgeable responses.

No issues with water pressure.

So far so good, the showers are cleaner, and chrome plug holes and the like don't collect scale like they used to.

I had some issues with a faulty unit, but Steven sorted everything out for me. My replacement unit arrived the next day, was fitted in by my local plumber and the unit is working really well. Steven has called me on numerous occassions to check how I was getting on, which I really appreciate and taken on board my feedback regarding some of the literature etc.. but overall I'm a happy customer and so glad we finally have softened water! We're a family of 2 kids and 2 adults and have around 450ppm water hardness and having run the softener for approximately 4 days or so, the W2B200 still has not required a regen. I've estimated that we would require a regen every 5-6 days or so, with us taking regular showers and doing 2-3 washing loads a week.

There are several things I like about my new W2B200, the customer service and help was brilliant. 2) The built in bypass system looks very neat and small, this softener is a replacement for my Monarch so I already had built my own bypass,shame this is much easier. 3) pipe connectors are very easy to fit. 4) The price, cheaper than buying a knew Monarch (the Monarch did serve us well). 5) The 7 year guarantee, and lastly, the W2B200 seems very economical.

The only but I didn't like is the manual, to me it looks like one of those Chinese manuals the has been translated into English and not checked. The internet and the help line very quickly sorted out the few problems I had setting up controller.

We've owned the W2B200 since Oct 2nd, so I can now give true review of the softener. We have a test kit that every drop equals 20ppm of harness, our untreated water is 420ppm, using the W2B200 the treated water is so soft I cannot get a reading,superb. The W2B200 was simple to setup and uses considerably less salt than the Monarch we used to have. Very very happy with Water2buy

Bought & fitted this softener as part of kitchen refitting. I personally don't think there's much difference in models being sold apart from the price. bought this unit seeing average good reviews on this site itself. Have had the softener fitted for 2 years now & I must say that we are really pleased with the performance. The use of salt is a 25KG bag every 8-9 weeks for a 2 person household. Hardly any use for limescale sprays for basins, sink, toilet pan etc as none deposits anymore & so the shower screen too. In initial days of fitment, I use to test water with test strips & nearly always they show softest indication. This means that I can be sure that more than 90% of hardness is removed. The model purchased is a metered type. W2B sell a timer model too but really, I don't see the point as the usage of water can never be matched with resin cleaning & in practise, too much salt is used for settings recommended. Hard water is supplied to the outside taps, CH boiler & a drinking water fountain that resides on the sink. Soft water everywhere else. We were able to arrange this plan fairly easily as kitchen was being remodelled & plumbing could easily be adapted at that point.
One happy W2B customer.

Bought this W2B 200 3 weeks ago replacing one that had been there before so plumbing was already there.
2 adults in 2 bathroom house ave usage.
Purchased some pipes and waste fitting kit from a local dealer £40. The depth of the softener is as stated but needed to remove the rear panel of the kitchen unit which was 500mm deep to fit it, really need to allow at least 550mm with 90 degree fittings at the rear for the softener to fit in. Also left the green cover off not needed.
After fitting an electrical supply filled container with 10 kg of salt and 4litres of water after a few hrs water felt different, the water test kit supplied is ok but not very useful just tells you if your water is hard or soft or in between no accurate measurement. I had purchased some test strips which told me my cold un softened water was about 350-400 and my water after the softener was about 80 so really pleased. I noticed areal difference in the shower glass really clean and doors slide on the runners a lot smoother. Kettle descaled.

Set up the timer etc via YouTube instruction booklet not very good but got over it. Tested water usage as im on a meter after 600 litres used and it went into a regen I checked water meter before and after it used 110 litres so I phoned help line adjusted the regen and back wash times and now uses between 70 and 90 litres of water for a regen every 3-4 days this I think works out about £12 per year water usage not bad. Salt used is about 10kg per 3 weeks. If you are thinking of buying this W2b 200 good value for money would recommend time will tell if it lasts. Thing to remember they all do the same thing end of the day you can pay over £1000 for other units. I hope this review is useful to someone I found out lots of info by reading here and the Q and A as-well.

I fitted this in our house a year and a half ago and thought I would wait before writing a review.

Our house has 2 bathrooms and in a very hard water area. Installed it easy enough and was impressed that it has a bypass valve built in. This means if it fails or you dont have any salt etc you can just bypass it in seconds. After a bit of experimenting with settings and testing g the water with test strips I eventually got it working just right. It will take any salt it seems and I get big bags from Costco for not a lot. I reckon we get through no more than 4 25kg bags of salt a year.

The difference softner water has had is amazing. We had a new kitchen and bathroom installed at the time the softner was installed. It's really noticeable the difference it gas made. No timescale in the toilets or on the shower heads. Even the shower screens have none. It's made keeping the bathrooms clean so much easier.

Well worth the money espe ially at this bargain price compared with others. Dont be put off by the cheap price when comparing to the expensive ones, they all do the same thing, I looked into it loads before buying one.

The unit isn't small and you need a bit of room for pipework and a power supply. As we were having a new kitchen I was able to design in a space for it.
You also need a couple of waste pipes off it. I plumbed one straight into the kitchen waste with a non return valve. If you do this without the valve you risk contamination of the water in the softner. In the instructions it doesn't mention you can do this but we have with any issues to date.

The hoses required to connect it may be an issue but I just took the connectors to a proper plumbers merchant and they supplied the braided hoses I needed.
