I've enjoyed the first few books in this series, but this one is one I found most tedious. If you're interested in the RAF during the 2nd world war, this is one for you. About 50% of the book is covering the history of RAF bombers and crew, the rest of the book was just a backdrop for all the historical facts. Totally boring

Really didn't go anywhere. A good build up about the Bomber Crews and why they should be remembered. However the conclusion left a slight against them which I don't think is deserved. There was no actual answer to the death but the supposition was there strongly.
Hope next book is better.

It was well written, good characterisation but more a story about the RAF Bomber Squadron than a crime mystery. I worked out Naomi’s solution to The death of an elderly airman fairly early on.

The end came suddenly and without any satisfaction. I was left open-mouthed and and wanting more. I understand the reasoning behind it but I was still very disappointed.

Well as you can see from my previous 2 reviews of the first 2 books in the series I enjoyed them very much. But as I say, they will only appeal to sad, old people like me, enjoying a bit of nostalgia for life in Britain in the old days. (I live in Germany and grew up in Devon). But sadly, this novel was all just about old RAF men and their lives in the war and their reunion and what problems this entails. So many details about the duties of these RAF bomber men (sorry, can't quite remember, but I know it kept saying the 'bombers') and in the end there was no real conclusion to the story. A bit disappointing. I'm not sure I'll be reading the next in line.

The ending of this one caught me by surprise. Turned the page, and "The End". I had anticipated a few more chapters. The book was short. The % count in Kindle says 89% at the End. That's 11%, enough for at least two more.
As well, we seem to be getting into a pattern where the Colonel regularly decides to keep the guilty to himself and let the perpetrators get away with it. I suddenly have second thoughts about bothering with the next in the series.

Well written, and by a well-informed author. But when you reach the end of the book there is no actual end to the storyline. You are left with the impression the end chapter is missing.

By the bye, I don't think that "cozy" is the word for a story about WW II bomber crews.

I love my cozy mysteries so this story hit me at first like other reviewers. A lot of space reviewing the backgrounds of all the characters and the cat.

Other people gave away the ending so I won't do that. Does every mystery have to have a "satisfying" ending? From all of the books I have read, the movies and TV shows, no one expects that it all gets wrapped up tidily in the end, but mystery lovers seem to expect this (in this case demand?) As the colonel grows in his detecting he is wrestling with the consequences of identifying whether it is a murder and who did it. As a private citizen, it is not his job to do this.

Another response to fellow reviewers: There are people who are in our lives that drive us nuts but we see their value and keep them in our lives. The colonel seems to be happy in his town with all of its eccentricities.

Possible slight: It is true that some veterans are either shamed or bask in glory completely separate from the specific details of their service record or the reality of their day to day experience. As a veteran, I wrestle with this. It is "real" and an author shouldn't have to conform to an "all heroes" mindset to honor those who served valiantly and honorably.

Mayhew's English village cozy mystery with the Colonel snooping into dead bodies is normally a good series. The 7th Link ended disappointingly with the Colonel not really solving the death of an aged airman. I thought the story ended too soon.
