Klantenrecensie

Beoordeeld in Nederland op 11 april 2021
I bought this product after doing some research. I was looking for an LED strip that could be used for accent lighting, RGB lighting to create certain atmospheres and could be used in conjunction with music, as a disco light of sorts. I also favored Bluetooth over WiFi, as it can connect directly to my phone (instead of my router) and I don't like the idea of such a device having internet access. This LED strip checked all the boxes. Other LED strips seemed to fall short on some things like badly made apps or complicated, ugly remote controls. It was also important to me that the LED strip is not visible or noticeable when not in use, but that depends more on my own cable management and DIY skills. :)

(I almost opted for an RGBIC LED strip - one where you can control each LED individually - but those LED strips cannot be shortened. This one *can* be shortened, but you can only control all LEDs at once. The picture on the packaging can be perceived as slightly misleading, because it shows an LED strip displaying multiple, different colors at the same time, which this one cannot do. I have seen this mentioned in reviews by disappointed people. Keep this in mind.)

Setting it all up was a breeze. It was just a matter of cleaning the surface with an alcohol wipe (included) and sticking the LEDs to the surface. They seem to stick well, but as my surface (painted wood) wasn't perfectly smooth, I did also secure the LED strip using special clips (also included, but I bought some more separately). I am not sure if this is needed, but it gives me some peace of mind. The excess at the end can just be cut off using scissors. After doing some cable management and sticking the controller box somewhere (adhesive strip included), it was time to play.

(Be sure that when hiding the cables that the infrared eye is visible. Direct line of sight to the remote control is needed if you want to use the included remote.)

The LED strip can be controlled with the remote control, but the Govee Home app offers a lot more functionality. After installing the app and connecting the LED strip (you need to choose your model of LED strip, which is H6138 in this case), it will ask you to install a firmware update for your LED strip (welcome to 2021). This firmware update does seem to improve upon some stuff like the music controls. From within the app, you can do all sorts of things, like changing music sensitivity or mode, creating your own color favorites and "scenes", selecting many pre-made scenes (like Christmas, police lights, sunset, valentines, party etc.) and setting up things like timers. The app seems to be getting better as well, because when I already had the LED strip for some weeks, they added some new functionality: it is now possible to use your phone's microphone for listening to the music and controlling the lights, instead of just the control box's built-in microphone. The latency is pretty good as well.

All in all I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and functionality of this LED strip. It seems to be miles ahead of some no-name brand LED strips that are found both online and in stores. I have just ordered my second one for a different part in the same room, so when it arrives, I will be able to test the app's functionality to control the LED strips synchronously. Can't wait.

I recommend this product.

Update April 16th 2021:
The second one arrived the other day. This one came in a(n) (updated?) box with a black-and-white picture of an LED strip, so my previous remark about the packaging having a picture of an RGBIC strip while this is actually an RGB strip might not be applicable anymore. I am as happy with the second one as I am with the first one. Synchronous control in the app works perfectly. The flashing colors in the different “scene” modes synchronize perfectly. In music mode, they seem to be doing their own thing independently, but I kind of expected that. I have added two pictures of the second LED strip.

Update April 28th 2021:
The app has been updated again and now it is possible to synchronize the music mode over two LED strips at the same time. The colors and the beat match on both strips. Really cool for parties!
