Achterflaptekst
Ally D'Aplièse is about to compete in one of the world's most perilous yacht races, when she hears the news of her adoptive father's sudden, mysterious death. Rushing back to meet her five sisters at their family home, she discovers that her father - an elusive billionaire affectionately known to his daughters as Pa Salt - has left each of them a tantalising clue to their true heritage.
Ally has also recently embarked on a deeply passionate love affair that will change her destiny forever. But with her life now turned upside down, Ally decides to leave the open seas and follow the trail that her father left her, which leads her to the icy beauty of Norway . . .
There, Ally begins to discover her roots - and how her story is inextricably bound to that of a young unknown singer, Anna Landvik, who lived there over a hundred years before, and sang in the first performance of Grieg's iconic music set to Ibsen's play 'Peer Gynt'. As Ally learns more about Anna, she also begins to question who her father, Pa Salt, really was. And why is the seventh sister missing?
Following the bestselling The Seven Sisters, The Storm Sister is the second book in Lucinda Riley's spellbinding series based loosely on the mythology surrounding the famous star constellation.
Over de auteur
Lucinda Riley was born in 1965 in Ireland, and after an early career as an actress in film, theatre and television, wrote her first book aged twenty-four. Her books have been translated into thirty-seven languages and continue to strike an emotional chord with all cultures around the world. The Seven Sisters series specifically has become a global phenomenon, creating its own genre, and there are plans to create a seven-season TV series.
Her books have been nominated for numerous awards, including the Italian Bancarella prize, The Lovely Books award in Germany, and the Romantic Novel of the Year award. In 2020 she received the Dutch Platinum award for sales over 300,000 copies for a single novel in one year - an award last won by J K Rowling for Harry Potter.
In collaboration with her son Harry Whittaker, she also devised a series of books for children called The Guardian Angels series, based on stories told to her children whenever they were facing a challenging situation. Harry then wrote the books, and they are now being published internationally.
Though she brought up her four children mostly in Norfolk in England, in 2015 she fulfilled her dream of buying a remote farmhouse in West Cork, Ireland, which she always felt was her spiritual home, and indeed this was where her last five books were written.
Lucinda was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and died on June 11th 2021, surrounded by her family.

I'm a big fan of the Seven Sisters as of now. I wasn't that convinced with the first book, but I am now. The search, the mystery, the history; Yay! I can't wait to find out where the next sister is from and what past-times she will discover.

Ally's story is both sad and hopeful. Her story is full of intrigue, is poignant and ultimately peace finding. I loved her journey of discovery of who she was and her birth heritage. I don't want to say too much as it would be a shame to give away the gradual unfurling secrets hidden inside the pages of this book and Ally's story. Please keep the next books in the series coming L C - you are a star of a writer.

The Seven Sisters was a strong start to the series so I was excited to read The Storm Sister but it didn't quite meet my expectations. Firstly, it took far too long to get going. Although there are some huge events in Ally’s life in the first part of the book, it didn't get interesting until Ally travelled to Norway and the stories of Anna and later Pip began to unfold. This middle section of the book was the part I enjoyed most, with its vivid descriptions of Christiania (modern day Oslo). However, the transition of Jens Halvorsen from lovesick and devoted to selfish and egotistical had me rolling my eyes. I understand it was a plot device but this major character development lacked depth making it feel rather clunky. Ally herself is a likeable character and her happiness is well deserved but I think Lucinda Riley could have gotten to this stage in less than 702 pages. The book was simply too long and could have been at least 150 pages shorter. Perhaps not my favourite read this year but I’m still interested to discover the other D'Aplièse sisters so I will be reading The Shadow Sister.

Yet Lucinda Riley has done it again. Ally’s story blends the modern tale and history to bring a story of early 20th century Norway (pre-WWII) to life. I loved reading about Edvard Grieg and ally’s forefathers- it was intertwined so well that it was hard to separate fact from fiction.
I adored Ally’s relationships and the unfolding of her story. Interesting as I hadn’t really liked her much during Maia’s story - she seemed so remote and removed from the others. It now makes much more sense...
Looking forward to reading about the rest of the sisters...
Very enjoyable 4*

No where near as good as the tales of Maia or Star and very far fetched by including some odd affairs of the heart with famous people, I found that just a bit creepy.
Several stories regarding different characters are unfinished within and the character of Ally is just not particularly likeable, and I felt little sympathy for her woes (which were obvious from the start)
